Central Wastewater Treatment Plant Demolition Project
Project No. 14-TP-MS-016D
Project Summary: On November 10, 2025, The City-Parish, Department of Environmental Services will begin the scheduled demolition of the vacant Central Wastewater Treatment Plant at 2422 River Road. The plant was decommissioned in 2016, as part of the City-Parish’s $1.2B Sanitary Sewer Overflow program, as the City-Parish moved to streamline operational and treatment efficiencies.
The contractor, Zimmer-Eschette Service II, LLC, will work over the next 9 months to demolish all buildings, enhance site security, and fill-in below ground piping and structures, resulting in a greenspace. The contractor does not anticipate any impacts to local residents or traffic in the area, as all work will be performed with the fenceline of the 21-acre tract.
This project is an important part of overall community enhancement between the LSU and downtown corridor, ridding the area of an abandoned industrial site and making safety improvements.
North Regional Wastewater Consolidation
Project No. 23-FM-MS-0038
Project Summary: The 23-FM-MS-0038 (North Regional Wastewater Consolidation) project will provide wastewater collection and conveyance infrastructure to two (2) areas currently serviced by community wastewater treatment systems, which discharge to the Comite River, an impaired waterbody. This project will provide City-Parish wastewater services to over 165 connections and eliminate the discharge of over 106,000 gallons of effluent to the Comite River each day. The North Regional Wastewater Consolidation Project (Port Hudson Plains Road- Highway 964) will construct a series of pump stations and forcemains that will connect to an existing forcemain, located approximately 4 miles west of Old Scenic Hwy (Highway 964), and 1.5 miles east of Old Scenic Hwy (Highway 964).
